1. What advice would you give to a salon thinking of taking on hair extensions?
The first step to success is to make sure that your salon is in a location that has a market for extensions. Good quality extensions are not the cheapest salon procedure and therefore you will need to be sure that you can create a demand in your local area.
The next step is to select a reliable hair extensions supplier with a wide range of high quality products, a great reputation, offering training, marketing support and fantastic value for money such as Hairaisers.

2. How much will it cost to train a stylist to perform extension work?
Hair extension training is now very affordable. The Hairaisers THREE Training Course costs just £325 + VAT per person and unlike other suppliers, the course teaches hairdressers of all levels, (although it is advisable for senior stylists or salon trainer to attend the course first) three application methods in just one day (traditional glue bonding, weft application and pre-bonded hair extensions).
A certificate of competence is issued to hairdressers who have attained the standards required in each application method, which can be displayed in the salon to reassure clients that those designated stylists have been professionally trained.

3. Is there any investment required by salon owners, in terms of furniture, specialist equipment and products?
Hairaisers sells two affordable hair extension kits, which include all of the materials your salon needs to get started, such as the application tools and a starter pack of hair.
The extensions themselves can be applied in normal styling chairs and a regular trolley or stand can be used to store the materials during the application process. The only frequent additional cost will be the purchasing of hair and fusion sticks (glue), which is ordered according to demand. But don’t worry about storage. Most salons don't need too much additional space for hair storage as reputable companies such as Hairaisers can usually deliver all the hair you require the next day.

4. Should you market yourself differently to appeal to your new clientele?
Yes! Marketing and PR are very important when taking on hair extensions. Hairaisers offers support in both these areas by supplying marketing material such as posters, leaflets and advertising images to assist your salon in organising local promotions.

5. Will extensions damage my hair?
If you have your extensions applied by a qualified hairdresser who has been fully trained in the hair extension application process and you follow their aftercare advice, extensions will not damage your hair.

6. What sort of aftercare is involved? Will my extensions be difficult to maintain?
You should use only products advised by your stylist and go for regular hair checks at your salon. Extensions will need more time and care than your normal hair but the level of maintenance required is still very manageable and the results will be well worth it!

7. How long do they last?
Depending on your hair type extensions should last between 2 to 3 months. It is not recommended to keep them in for longer. However, if you can’t live without your extensions, don’t worry as they can be taken out and reapplied the same day.

8. What if I don’t suit them?
Extensions are not for everyone but a good stylist should be able to advise you during the consultation process. If you’re still undecided and are looking for a more temporary solution, Temporary Fusion extensions are a great alternative. Although they may only last for approximately 2 weeks, they offer a more cost effective way to experiment with hair extensions.

9. How much will hair extensions cost?
Prices vary according to location, the type of the salon and the hair extension hair used to create your extension hairstyle. Most salons offer a package deal where your products, blow dry and finish are all included in the price. Expect to pay £150, £300, £500 or £1000 for your extension hairstyle.

10. What if I get bored? How versatile are extensions?
Human hair extensions are very versatile as you can wear them in a wide variety of styles. Whether you wish to blow dry them straight, curl them with tongs or leave them to dry naturally, with Hairaisers hair extensions, the possibilities are endless.

11. I’d like to try extensions but don’t really want long hair, what else can I try?
Extensions are great for adding colour to your hair. Ask your stylist for spot extensions to give vibrant or subtle highlights. Alternatively, if your hair is really fine, scattered extensions, which are cut into your style, will give your hair fantastic volume.

12. I am going on holiday, is it still okay to have extensions?
Water will soften the bonds holding extensions in place. Chlorine can affect the extension hair. Extension hair must be tied up in a pony tail and u.v. protection products are to be used on the extension hair when sunbathing or swimming. Bonds are to be dried as quickly as possible after swimming or left in a pony tail so that there is no strain or pressure put on the bonds when they are wet.

13. I’m getting married should I have extensions for my big day?
Extensions can completely transform your look, so I would advise you to book in a consultation with your stylist first and then have them applied a few weeks before your big day. This will give you time to get used to the look and maintenance of your new hair.

14. I’ve recently lost my hair due to stress, can extensions help?
Before considering extensions, first consult your doctor to confirm that you can go ahead. If the rest of your hair is suitable, extensions could then be applied to disguise the patch. A good hairdresser will advise you of the likely results at the consultation stage.
